Jason Isbell Oakland reviews
Just...okay...
I've seen Isbell 4 times, and this was the only time I left the show thinking "That could have been better." He seems to have developed a sort of prima donna "rock and roll" attitude. The show was good and his band was tight, but there wasn't the banter with the crowd and the storytelling that's always made his shows great in the past. Played a mediocre setlist largely comprising newer songs without paying off his past by playing more popular tunes from the DBT and early 400 Unit days. Still, he's a fantastic musician and expert songwriter and guitar player. I just was a bit underwhelmed.
